Michelle Renee's gripping memoir, Held Hostage, is now a Lifetime movie and recently premiered globally. Surviving a violent childhood she thought she escaped, at 35 a devastating home invasion kidnapping, 14 hours held hostage, and being forced to rob a bank to save her 7 year-old daughters led to going back to the dark days of her youth to heal it all. A story of a mother's love, empowerment, purpose and self-discovery, Michelle was the Creative Consultant and Associate Producer ensuring the important aspects of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, mental health, positive recovery and healing were depicted in a real, sometimes harsh, yet authentic way.
After 2.5 years of CBT trauma therapy and a one-year journey into the open spaces of Alaska that led to a spiritual and emotional awakening, Michelle chose to embrace self-love and acceptance and positive recovery techniques she and her daughter could both practice. That has led to her becoming a dynamic force with a powerful message bringing her passion for inspiring others to construct a positive post-trauma identity into the lives of millions.
Her organization, Rock To Stop Violence, was launched in 2007 and today hosts events nationally with one mission: Bring communitites together to stand united against violence and abuse through rock n roll music, art, and fashion.
